If you have known yourself to be a people pleaser you are probably familiar with the guilt that comes with putting yourself first. Giving any excuse to justify why it is selfish to want to have your own desires met.
But I’m here to say there is nothing wrong with being a little selfish. I understand that you may feel like you need to be grateful for what you have, and honestly I agree we must remain grateful for the little things that bring us comfort and joy. But it is also alright to want more, to strive for more.
It is only users and abusers that wouldn’t want you to meet your own needs before theirs. To actively guilt you into holding your own dreams back to make sure you help them reach theirs.
Unfortunately, sometimes even those who we feel truly love us are also some of the people who can hold us back the most from accomplishing what we want to set out to do. Through unsolicited advice or simply projecting their own insecurities onto you. Maybe unintentionally instilling doubts in your mind.
My advice, you don’t need to share everything and remember to place boundaries. Because if you keep spreading your energy to every single person that asks for it. you will never have enough to improve your own life.
